Władysława Markiewiczówna

Władysława Markiewiczówna

1900-1982

Władysława Markiewiczówna, born on 5 Feb. 1900 in Bochnia, died on 17 May 1982 in Katowice, a Polish pianist and composer. She studied piano and composition under S. Eisenberg and Z. Jachimecki respectively, at the conservatory in Cracow, in 1922-1927 in Berlin under H. Leichtentritt (composition) and B. Eisner (piano). After the studies she was performing in Germany and Poland. In 1929, she started teaching piano at the State Conservatory of Music in Katowice, in 1945-1970 she was a professor at the State Higher School of Music in Katowice. Markiewiczówna’s students include A. Jasiński and T. Żmudziński. She was awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta in 1954.
 

Markiewiczówna was composing chamber and piano pieces, songs, folk music arrangements, illustrations, in the neoclassical style, for theatre plays. An important part of Markiewiczówna’s oeuvre is constituted by the works for children, including reprinted many times school for piano “Do re mi fa sol”.
