Jan Kanty Pawluśkiewicz - Polish pianist, composer, arranger and painter was born on 13th October 1942 in Nowy Targ. He graduated from the State Music School in Nowy Targ (Z. Chodorowicz's piano class) and studied at the Faculty of Architecture at Cracow University of Technology from 1961 to 1968.

In 1967 Pawluśkiewicz together with Marek Grechuta founded the student cabaret called Anawa and music ensemble of the same name within this cabaret. Pawluśkiewicz was managing the ensemble, playing piano, composing and arranging songs, that made him and Grechuta very popular, for example Days we don't know yet/Dni, których nie znamy, Tangerines, oranges/Mandarynki, pomarańcze, Woodbine/Dzikie wino, Don't tease/Nie dokazuj, Heart/Serce, Tango, Our world/Świecie nasz. In 1971 Jan Kanty Pawluśkiewicz started cooperation with „The Cellar under the Rams” cabaret (Piwnica pod Baranami). In 1973 he made his debut as a film composer and one year later - as a theathre composer.

Since mid-70s Jan Kanty Pawluśkiewicz creates larger musical forms, such as musical The Crazy Locomotive/Szalona lokomotywa based on works of S.I. Witkiewicz (1977, with Marek Grechuta), opera A rooster crowed/Kur zapiał to W. Dymny's texts (1985), oratories Ludźmierz Vespers/ Nieszpory Ludźmierskie to L.A. Moczulski's psalms (1992), Gardens of Jozafat/Ogrody Jozafata (2002), Venetian Stories of Hell and Paradise/Weneckie opowieści o piekle i raju (2008), The Joy of Mercy/Radość Miłosierdzia (2009), misterias Path, Life, Love/Droga, Życie, Miłość based on poetry of L. A. Moczulski (1999), The Lord Passed Through this Land/Przez tę ziemię przeszedł Pan (2005), symphonic poem Papusza's Harps/Harfy Papuszy to poems written by W. Wajs-Papusza (1994), concert Amat vita (1998), piano concert Leaf Earing/Liściany kolczyk (2005) or clarinet concert Karossa/Carossa (2013).

Very important part of composer's artistic activity is film music. He is known for his compositions to the movies directed by Tomasz Zygadło (The Puzzle/Rebus 1997, The Moth/Ćma 1980, Revenge/Odwet 1982), Kazimierz Kutz (Reverted/Zawrócony 1994, Colonel Kwiatkowski/Pułkownik Kwiatkowski 1995), Faliks Falk (Top Dog/Wodzirej 1977, Chance/Szansa 1979, The Idol/Idol 1984, Hero of the Year/Bohater roku 1986), Agnieszka Holland (Fever/Gorączka 1980, A Lonely Woman/Kobieta samotna 1981), Krzysztof Kieślowski (Short Working Day/Krótki dzień pracy 1981) or Márta Mészáros (Daughters of Luck/Córy szczęścia 1999, Little Vilma/Mała Vilma 2000). The music composed by Pawluśkiewicz to the movie Papusza (directed by Joanna Kos-Krauze and Krzysztof Krauze, 2013) received the award for the best music at 38. Gdynia Film Festival.
