These 24 Violin Duets were inspired by analogous collections composed by Béla Bartók (44 Duets for Two Violins) and Luciano Berio (34 Duets for Two Violins). Author decided to adopt a slightly different approach than outstanding predecessors. This collection is more expansive, with fewer pieces (only 24 works) and a strongly varied musical language across the set. Thus it includes both compositions inspired by the music of the Podhale highlands of Poland, especially the region of the Pieniny Mountains, and also duets written in a contemporary language with aleatory elements that not only give interesting sonorities, but also allow each violinist to display their individual imagination. There are also several duets (Quasi Tango, Happy day, Waltz, March for Małgorzata) written in a wholly tonal idiom.
