Highland carols
for unaccompanied mixed choir (study score)
The vast and diverse Polish carol repertoire is now gaining three new Kolędziołki, or highland carols, by Marcin Łukasz Mazur, composed to words by Jerzy Ficowski, a Polish poet and historian who researches mainly the culture of the Roma (…).
The choral miniatures that make up this set of carols, besides their artistic qualities, may also play an important cognitive and educational role, bringing the set poems to wider attention. As both the vocal parts and the other elements of the choral texture represent good practice material, facilitating artistic creativity, this set of works may help to develop the performers’ musical and choral abilities.
– fragment of preface, Adam Korzeniowski, translated by John Comber
