Scherzo-Caprice Op. 13
for Cello and Piano
Unlike the violin and piano repertories, Polish cello literature is lacking typical virtuoso works intended for concert-hall performance or as teaching material. The addition of a new composition to the few pieces by David Popper, Daniel van Goens or George Goltermann, in which the technique of flying bowstrokes is used, is especially valuable as the work in question is Polish. Karol Skarżyński's ''Scherzo-Caprice'', Op. 13, is a highly difficult piece, its right-hand technique requiring employing spiccato or sauitille while the left has to produce a rich gamut of natural harmonics.
