Today on the Polish Music Festival

2006-11-08
8 November 5:00 and 7:30 PM

5:00 PM

These young and superb musicians from the United States of America have completely shocked us with their willingness to become acquainted with Polish music. Specially for the occasion of their first visit to Poland, they have prepared eight works! The program has also been put together in a beautiful and symbolic manner: the mythological figures of the Sirens and of Daedalus rub shoulders with an homage to astronauts discovering the universe; and music dedicated by students to their teachers, with a staggering work written as a farewell to one of them. This will be chamber music of the highest order.

7:30 PM

A good time with Mozart in the background. The concert will begin with the overture to Dobrzyński’s only completed opera, and end with his Hommage, based on a Mozart opera theme, which we will hear beforehand in the original. And since this same theme was once utilized by Chopin, we have included that work in the program, too. All three of the young performers will definitely also have a lot of fun. After the intermission, we will hear a new work by a Kraków composer, premièred a mere few weeks ago in Lviv. And as a finale, we will hear some great Polish symphonic repertoire from the 19th century.

37th Krakow International Festival of Composers, 10-18 May, 2025 under honorary auspices of Aleksander Miszalski, Mayor of Krakow

The theme of the 37th Krakow International Festival of Composers is music in music. Already in the 1970s, this issue was studied by the outstanding founder of the Krakow Theoretical School, Professor Mieczysław Tomaszewski. He reflected on the subject in an article entitled “At the Opening: why ‘music in music’”, which was published before one of the famous Music Meetings in Baranów.
