Capriccio rustico [Rural Caprice]
for Piano
Kaprys wiejski for piano was written in 1951 - a new incarnation of a lost, pre-war Mazurka. The word ''caprice'' in the title explains the narrative meandering of the piece. A rustic atmosphere pervades the piece from the beginning, but it is neither the simplistic folklore of hopsa-sa, nor the simple stylisation determined by the industrial metaphor melting folk models in the crucible of their own sensibility. Indeed, Kisiel melts the dies of more than one musical tradition, thanks to which he creates a whole array of musical associations astonishing in finesse and intellectual bravado linking worlds that would seem distant.
