O Domina Nostra
Meditations on Our Lady of Jasna Góra Op. 55 for Soprano and Organ
O Domina nostra is another composition representing the trend of sacred music in Górecki's output. The work was composed with the 600th anniversary of the Black Madonna image in mind. The connotations with chant are very clear here both in the tonal and textual layers, the latter being a Latin text compiled by the composer. The fact that the work was dedicated to Stefania Woytowicz, is extremely important, as that distinguished soprano together with her husband was a real tower of strength for Górecki during the serious disease caused by his damaged hip (1982). Thus the composition has a personal implication.
