‘This volume supplements the main corpus of Karol Szymanowski’s Works in source edition. It contains sketches of unfinished, unknown, and planned works that due to their musical content can serve for interesting studies of the composer’s art; they can also be further edited and used for reconstruction of the works. Karol Szymanowski left behind circa one thousand sketches of different kinds. Some of them are fragments of planned works that can be reconstructed and others are rough drafts that make it impossible to recreate music or even define its origin. Short sketches are a large part of this collection, comprising single bars and loose motifs notated among various compositions.’
