Battle
for two Pianos six Hands
Batalia is a composition dedicated to two pianos, although for six hands – the scoring of the first piano is divided into two separate parts. The musical language of this attractive work corresponds with the conventional style of the turn of the epoch. The composition is enriched by numerous illustrative moments, based on tremolandos in the low register, which probably mirror the sounds of the uprising. However, Batalia is primarily filled with patriotic citations. Krogulski included the melodies of the Dąbrowski Mazurka, Szara piechota (‘Grey infantry’), and Witaj majowa jutrzenko (‘Welcome, the May dawn’), written in April 1831.
