String Quartet No. 5
score
Of Bacewicz's Quartets this is the most expressive and individual, no longer drawing on folk music (...), but still not lost in pseudo-avantgarde compositional solutions (...). The work demonstrates the composer's perfect mastery of post-Bartók's style. A meaningful expressiveness of the composition makes it go beyond folk music-making. [M. Tomaszewski, The Most Remarkable Compositions of the Fifty-year Period, a commentary, Polish Music 1945-1995, Kraków 1996]
