…daybreak… is a musical illustration of the approach of the morning, expressing a state of inner questioning, expectation and reflection. The principal motif is the melody of the religious song ‘Kiedy ranne wstają zorze’ (‘When the day breaks’). Throughout this work, a delicate, soft dynamic and nebulous harmony hold sway, with musical actions appearing against that backdrop.
This composition contains improvised and aleatory segments, which afford performers plenty of scope for interpretation.
