Structure; Prank
for Solo Alto Saxophone (Ist prize / distinction in the 3rd T. Ochlewski Composition Competition 2005)
According to a definition, a structure is an arrangement of the elements of a whole, the way in which they are connected with each other. The one-movement piece for solo alto saxophone has also been conceived in the form of elements connected with each other and at the same time differing enough to throw the interesting colours and techniques of this instrument into relief. The performer also builds the course of the tensions of the work, combining its separate sections into one whole; it is up to him whether the structure will be stable or otherwise, and unstable does not mean worse. [D. Przybylski]
''Prank'' for solo alto saxophone is a work of a highly jocular character. Its light and simple form, enriched with a characteristic articulation and dynamics, fully renders that happy character suggested by the title of the composition. [R. Kosek]
