Symphony No. 5
for Choir and Symphony Orchestra
Advent Symphony was commissioned by the Silesian Philharmonic and had its premiere in November 2007 during the inauguration of the 8th Grzegorz Fitelberg International Competition for Conductors in Katowice. In the four-movement work there are references to the musical culture of Silesia; the second movement is based on the seventeenth century Silesian church song Jezu, Jezu, do mnie przyjdź and the third is based on the German Advent song Herr, send herab uns deinen Sohn (Andernacher Gesangbuch, Cologne 1608). In the first and fourth movements the composer introduces the chorale, its text drawn from the ending the Apocalypse of St. John as well as the Amen.
