The French Celebrate the Birthdays of Elżbieta Sikora and Witold Lutosławski

On September 6 in Paris there will be a concert on the occasion of Elżbieta Sikora's 70th birthday and the 100th anniversary of the birth of Witold Lutosławski - music lovers will hear Sikora's „Sono-sphère 1-Twilling” (world premiere) and Lutosławski's "Chain 1" amongst other works. The concert will be held in the Marcel Lewandowski Auditorium, CCR Paris, 14 rue de Madrid. Free admission.In the concert programme:

As the organisers write: Witold Lutosławski and Elżbieta Sikora, Polish composers whose music is played all over the world, are two different, aesthetically distinct generations. Lutosławski is known amongst other things for aleatoric works, while Sikora is highly regarded for her ability to include all the achievements from the field of electronics in her works.

The short documentary “Bacewicz x Bomsori”, directed by Jakub Piątek, is reaching an ever-wider international audience. On September 14, the prestigious Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari will host the Italian premiere of Zygmunt Krauze's two-act opera, which tells the poignant story of Bona Sforza d’Aragona. Staging this work in Bari carries deep symbolic meaning – it is the very city where the title heroine spent her final years and was laid to rest.

The theme of the 37th Krakow International Festival of Composers is music in music. Already in the 1970s, this issue was studied by the outstanding founder of the Krakow Theoretical School, Professor Mieczysław Tomaszewski. He reflected on the subject in an article entitled “At the Opening: why ‘music in music’”, which was published before one of the famous Music Meetings in Baranów.
