Three Caprices op.29
for Violin solo
The cycle of Three Caprices, op. 29 by Karol Lipiński is definitely one of the most popular, recognised and frequently performed compositions by this outstanding Polish virtuoso. The work was written in 1835–36, only a dozen years after the Caprices, op. 1 for violin solo by Niccolò Paganini. Without doubt, Lipiński was impressed by this outstanding collection; besides, he met the legendary Italian several times during their common performances in the first half of the 19th century.
My arrangement is a result of the synthesis of my own ideas based on the concert experience and precious indications included in the edition of the Caprices by Irena Dubiska. I thought mainly about the comfort of playing, good sound of particular fragments and certain universality of fingering in spite of the hand size. The proposed solutions can be an introduction to further search for the expression of performed works and comfort of playing.
