Różycki’s Adventures in Jazzland. Kuba Stankiewicz's LP album on sale from 10 October
2024-10-10
Although Ludomir Różycki - one of the most important representatives of Young Poland - enjoyed spectacular success as a composer during his lifetime, his works are rarely included in concert programmes today. It is therefore worth remembering his exceptional art.
It was the music of this composer that fascinated the esteemed jazz pianist Kuba Stankiewicz. The material recorded on the album INSPIRED BY LUDOMIR RÓŻYCKI from the REVISIONS series of ANAKLASIS is a journey to the roots, imbued with the spirit of jazz. Kuba Stankiewicz is one of the most interesting Polish jazz pianists; he has worked with Jan Ptaszyn Wróblewski, Zbigniew Namysłowski, Art Shaw and Art Farmer, among others. For years he has been researching the influence of pre-war Polish film music on the development of jazz, and has recorded excellent albums of music by Victor Young, Bronisław Kaper and Henryk Wars, as well as their master, Roman Statkowski.
After the album inspired by the music of Roman Statkowski, INSPIRED BY LUDOMIR RÓŻYCKI is Kuba Stankiewicz's second album released by ANAKLASIS. In addition to his solo interpretations, the album contains songs recorded together with outstanding artists: singer Grażyna Auguścik, Jakub Olejnik & Darek Oleszkiewicz on double basses, Przemyslaw Jarosz & Tina Raymond on drums. The album consists of eight compositions by Różycki, which form the basis of the jazz reinterpretations.
The pianist and composer Ludomir Różycki was the creator of remarkable operas ('Bolesław Śmiały', 'Eros and Psyche' and 'Casanova', to name but a few), although history has placed him in the shadow of Stanisław Moniuszko. A pioneer of the Polish National Ballet, he composed the music for 'Moralność pani Dulskiej' - the first Polish film to be accompanied by a soundtrack - and was the first president of the Polish Composers' Association. Here, for the first time, his legacy is infused with the spirit of jazz.
The album on vinyl will be available from 10 October in PWM bookstore, in the best music shops and in the empik virtual store. The premiere of the LP release will be accompanied by a concert featuring material from the album as part of the ANAKLASIS na FALI cycle (10 October at 19:00 in Studio S5 Krakow, broadcast live on Radio Krakow and rebroadcast on Channel 2 of Polish Radio and on Radio Krakow Kultura).

Time passes constantly, changing the world and its soundscape around us. The title IL TEMPO PASSA may be both a reflection on the impermanence of life, world and things and a piece of advice to enjoy the moment. The latest album by ANAKLASIS presents Joanna Wnuk-Nazarowa’s cameral and symphonic works from recent years. Premiere on 28 May 2024, on the composer’s 75th birthday.
It is a musical-literary tale about a quest for identity, truth, and for what makes us human. The new stage work by Aleksander Nowak – which is, at the same time, Radek Rak’s operatic debut – explores the sources of good and evil, fusing reality with mythology and steering towards ‘the left-hand side of the world’. The authors spin a tale about the dual human nature. THE TALE OF THE HEART. FAVOLA IN MUSICA – the album that presents their joint project – will go on sale on 6th October.
