Bell and Small Bells
for voice and piano
In these songs two types of ''heroes'' are contrasted - laid-back bells tolling from a church tower buried in the ground, a giant bell. (...) the presentation of bells takes place against a background of an ostinato chord in playful sixteenths rising upwards (...).The voice of the bells is illustratively painted through two-note statements, later scanned into one note. The answer of the great, unhappy bell is in a lugubre mood (...), with serious accompaniment, captured in an ostinato formula of piano chords. At the end of the piece however the scatterbrain disappearing piano motto of little bells returns. [M. Gąsiorowska, Bacewicz, PWM Kraków, 1999]
