Niobe,
Ballet-pantomime in 1 Act and 3 Scenes
The subject of the ballet Niobe is treated symbolically, as a comprehensive metaphore. Mythical Niobe, punished by Zeus for her immoderate pride in the children and after death changed into a stone figure, is a symbol of maternal affection, anguish and pain, immemorial and immutable feelings. (n this ballet the choir is treated instrumentally and it handles a text made up of the repeated names or chosen syllables of the names of NIobe's children. I.
