Warsaw-born Maciej Zieliński (b. 1971) is one of the leading Polish composers of his generation, receiving numerous accolades for his compositions ranging from contemporary classical music to film music. His Oratio [Prayer] for solo organ features three phases – Gratiarum Actio [thanksgiving], Penitentia [penitence], and Preces [petition] – with contrasting textures and emotional characteristics. The one-movement work was premiered by organist Natalia Zanni in 2003, at the inaugural concert of the 18th Organ Conversatorium in Legnica, Poland.
