Sonata
for clarinet and piano
The Sonata For Clarinet And Piano was classified by the Ministry of Culture and Arts in the cycle of educational pieces, published as part of just such a set by Polskie Wydawnictwo Muzyczne. Aesthetically it belongs to the realm of pieces straight from the amusement park. The seemingly simple texture of the solo part and the quite difficult piano accompaniment form an entirety, which demands unprecedented attention from young performers who require dexterity, musicality and a sense of humour. This is because under the serious name sonata there hides truly happy music and in a special way, far from any triviality. One could say that this is the essence of neoclassical gaiety, a sense of sophisticated humour, sensitive to all high styles, capable however, of light, ironic distance towards them.
