Polish music in the Grzegorz Fitelberg International Competition for Conductors repertoire
2017-11-17
Besides the music by such classics and great symphonists as Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, or Tchaikovsky, participants in the 10th Grzegorz Fitelberg International Competition for Conductors will also present their interpretations of oeuvres by Polish composers. Polish music constitutes a dominant in the competition repertoire and is an obligatory element of each stage of the auditions.
Already at the first stage of the competition there will be a piece by a Polish composer – the overture “Fairy Tale” by Stanisław Moniuszko; the next stage will include: Symphony “Rebirth” in E minor Op. 61 by Karol Szymanowski, and Concerto for Cello and Orchestra by Witold Lutosławski.
The finalists in the competition will present their skills of conducting a symphony orchestra in Concerto for Orchestra and Symphony No. 2 by Witold Lutosławski, Symphony No. 4 “Symphonie concertante” Op. 60 by Karol Szymanowski, “Refrain” Op. 21 by Henryk Mikołaj Górecki, and Symphony No. 2 “Christmas Symphony” by Krzysztof Penderecki.
Thanks to the competition, oeuvres by Polish composer have a chance to become a permanent element of concert programmes all over the world – conductors who take part in this event often include the pieces prepared for the auditions in the repertoires of their ensembles.
For the duration of the competition, PWM Edition will provide scores of the oeuvres from the PWM catalogue on the Issue platform. It will be a unique occasion to listen to individual renditions looking at a relevant score. We strongly recommend this form of participation in this exceptional event in the world of music!
We also encourage you to visit the Facebook fanpage of PWM, where you will be able to find materials on the composers and the music performed during this year’s edition of the competition.
