Marcin Stańczyk the Polish representative in the 16+1 programme
2018-05-24
Marcin Stańczyk will again be representing Poland in the second edition of the 16+1 cooperation programme between China and the countries of Central-Eastern Europe, which will take place in 2018–2019. The programme is aimed at enhancing knowledge about culture and traditional music in China and fostering bilateral cultural relations.
The first edition was held in 2016–2017, and the invited composers learned about the culture and traditional music of the Chinese provinces of Fujian, Yunnan, Gansu and Guizhou. They also took part in workshops with the Forbidden City Chamber Orchestra in Beijing. The experience they gained gave rise to the commission, composition and first performance in Shanghai of a new work by Marcin Stańczyk: Dancing Dune.
On 29 May, Stańczyk is setting off on another month-long journey around China and Inner Mongolia. That journey is to culminate in a new composition commissioned by our Chinese counterparts. It will be a work for the Chinese National Traditional Orchestra and will have its first performance in 2019. It is vital that the Chinese are not only keen on organising further ‘editions’, but also attach great weight to establishing long-term relations, affording the opportunity for a fuller, deeper understanding of their culture – stressed Marcin Stańczyk.
