Four Caprices constitutes not only a catalogue of different, sophisticated means of articulation, kinds of bowing, rhythmical figures and ''intervallic scales'', juxtaposed occasionally on the principle of contrast; they are, however, in a sense, also a ''travel in time''. Each of the pieces is built to form a self-contained whole; thus they can be performed separately.
