Fantaisie Orientale Op. 24
for Violin and Piano
Fantaisie orientale op. 24 is one of two opus works that were published after the death of Henryk Wieniawski. Fantaisie orientale is a compact and short piece one-piece with a rhapsodic form and improvisational character. The title of this work (Eastern fantasy) is justified by the material heard in the composition, which is based on the so-called Gypsy scale, with its characteristic augmented seconds between degrees III and IV and VI and VII, derived from the key of A minor. It is a virtuosic work for the salon.
