Walzes
for Piano
The publication contains three waltzes composed by Juliusz Zarębski (1854–1885) in the years 1883–1885: Valse sentimentale op. 17, Valse-Caprice op. 24 and Valse op. 30. Zarębski's graceful, rather simple Waltzes op. 17 and 30 reveal their salon provenance.
Zarębski proposed in his works (especially in op. 17) very rich pedalling, often combining related harmonies and figurations following through neighbouring registers of the instrument. Due to differences in construction between 19th century and contemporary pianos, the musical effect of faithful application of the composer's pedalling would perhaps not correspond to his intentions - hence the proposals for additional changes to the pedal given in brackets. The edition also corrected textual errors of the first editions and proposed fingering.
