First Performance of "Elegy" of Mikołaj Górecki

First Performance of
2015-04-21

Elegy for cello and string orchestra by Mikołaj Górecki, which was performed for the first time on 19 April at the Festival of World Premieres in Katowice by Tomasz Strahl (cello) and the AUKSO Chamber Orchestra of the City of Tychy under the baton of Marek Moś, was very well received by the audience and the critics.

Dorota Szwarcman commented that the latest work by Górecki could be defined as a "totally neo-neoromantic, hollywood theme and variations”. Barnaba Matusz noted that the "smooth musical passage and the fact that the successive parts, although contrastive, are easily converted into one another, help the listener follow the changing music expression - not always lyrical in a traditional sense, but very often cheerful (…) Received warmly by the audience, Elegy was dedicated to the soloist Tomasz Strahl who showed musical sensitivity especially in numerous solo cantilenas. Congratulations were also offered to Mikołaj Górecki who was present in his hometown Katowice."
