The cantata Akropolis for mixed choir and orchestra was written for the occasion of the six-hundredth anniversary of the Jagiellonian University's foundation. The first performance of the composition took place on 10 May 1964; the Cracow Philharmonic Ochestra and Choir were conducted by Andrzej Markowski. In this short work the composer used an excerpt of Stanisław Wyspiański's Akropolis. It is a solemn piece of music as befits an occasional composition but at the same time it bears an individual mark of the composer's style.
