The work was written in 1973. The stimulus for the composition was the short, enigmatic texts of Chinese poets translated into French by Franz Toussaint from the collection of the same title as the composition. Three movements (I, II, IV) of this four-movement composition are songs, whereas in the third movement, the most complex formally the role of solo instrument is played by the piano. The composition received an honourable mention at the 1978 UNESCO International Composers' Rostrum in Paris. Eugeniusz Knapik
