Monbar, or, The Freebooters op. 30 is the first and only finished opera of Ignacy Feliks Dobrzyński. The composer worked on it from 1836-38, but only after many years of efforts did he manage to have it premiered. This event took place in Warsaw on 10 January 1863. In this work, influences of French grand opera are in evidence, and the introductory overture is enchanting in its Romantic color and interesting musical narrative.
