The composers music, maybe in a way he was not fully aware of himself, changed by drawing from the avant-garde, and that which can be heard in Sports Signals from 1966; a chameleon piece, which combines seriousness and the grotesque, the solemn polyphony of the strings with the sound of a provincial wind band, defiling the American Thanksgiving Day. Polish Ives? But nothing like that - this is only about a smile, a smile and satisfaction with a job well done. This musical ''misterio Bouffe'' is hard to place in any category of styles. A short work for orchestra, an overture with an unclear internal structure ... Signals, though somehow trying not to decscribe it (this can work, despite the intentions of the author, be considered programme music!) is a child of its time, the years of unbridled sonorism. [M.
