Dobrzyńskis 1st Symphony was written in 1829, when the composer was only 22 years old. This is not a youthful work, but a serious and deftly constructed symphony, betraying a growing creative talent. This four-part work (Adagio molto - Minuetto - Andante con variazioni - Finale) already belongs stylistically to early romanticism and the melodic and harmonic layers are full of beautiful themes and chords. Interestingly enough, Dobrzyński dedicated the piece to Tsar Nicholas I. The orchestral materials held by PWM were made in 2004 based on manuscript copies of the score from the year 1863 provided by the Warsaw Music Society (WTM) The WTM library also has an autograph extract of the Symphony for 4 hands.
