The Polonaise triomphale was written in 1882. At first, the composition was intended for piano four-hands; and in such a form, the score was published by Schott Musik in Mainz in 1882. Somewhat later, the composer re-scored the work for symphony orchestra (2 flutes, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets, 2 bassoons, 4 horns, 2 trumpets, 4 trombones, timpani and strings), but the Polonaise in this version was probably never performed. Its manuscript was rediscovered at the Goethe and Schiller Archives in Weimar during recent, painstaking research into the composers ouvre conducted by Prof. Ryszard Golianek of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. In 2005, the Polonaise was published by the Rhytmos press.
