Nocturne
for two accordions
The Nocturne was composed in the spring of 1987. Despite the growing interest in Andrzej Krzanowski’s accordion music at that time, the composer was far from astonishing others with experimental sound creation methods or with virtuosity. (...) In spite of its simplicity, this composition, performed by two accordionists, generates a wide space of varying intensity of sound energy. The piece is a miniature; it lasts about six minutes. The dedication For Marta Bene and Mogens Ellegaard was related to Krzanowski’s stay in Viitasaari (Finland) in the summer of 1987 at the ‘Time of Music’ International Summer Academy Courses, during which the Polish composer and Finnish accordionist Mogens Ellegaard participated and performed together in various chamber formations. The world premiere of the Nocturne took place on 12 November 1987 at the Polish Institute in Vienna, performed by Jerzy Łukasiewicz and Wiesław Strombek.
