Variations on a Folk Theme
for Piano
''Variations on a Folk Theme'' was written for a Composition Competition for a solo piano work organised by the Polish Music Publishing Society in Warsaw in 1937, and achieved some distinction. The simple, transparent, almost austere theme of the Variations, supported by chords, is developed, texturally enriched and transformed in the successive variations, performed attacca, culminating in the fugal finale. The work, published for the firts time, has been edited on the basis of a manuscript photocopy.
