Volière II
for clarinet, cello and double bass
Volière II is one of my earliest works of contemporary classical music. I wrote it at the beginning of my second year of composition studies (2015) and revised it towards the end of the third year (2017). The pre-composition material consisted of recordings of birdsong, which I translated loosely into the sounds of clarinet, cello and double bass (incl. the use of trills in the clarinet and delicate taps with the hand on the strings of the cello and double bass, resembling the sound of beating wings). In order to obtain a texture reminiscent of the voices of birds overlapping at different times, I decided to introduce controlled aleatory technique in several places.
