Book 3, taking up the problem of double-note playing, consists of two parts. Part 1 comprises scales and initial exercises connected with them. Part 2 contains a selection of studies and appropriate works from 19th and 20th centuries. Especial attention was paid to problems of fingering, several variants being presented on occasion. However, the fingerings given are only suggestions; the performer may change them according to individual conditions and dispositions.
