''The form of ''Returning Waves'', in accordance with its poetic design, is created after the fashion of a many-stranded 'stream of consciousness''. The fluent succession of contrasting musical pictures permeated by the primary process of development and rising tension. The first subject, which is particularly prominent, recurs in various forms in the course of the composition, often being reduced to its introductory motif. The successive subjects and their evolutionary groupings are integrated into certain primary musical wholes. [Leszek Polony]
